"Filament Drying Mode” for all Enclosed printers

Summary I am proposing a dedicated Filament Dryer Mode within the printer firmware. This would leverage the high-quality heatbed and precise thermal controls of the Prusa ecosystem to dry engineering-grade filaments (PA, PC, etc.) that typically require temperatures (70–90°C) beyond the reach of entry-level consumer dryers. Problem Statement Most consumer filament dryers max out at 50–70°C. Engineering filaments require higher, sustained temperatures for effective moisture removal. Dedicated "prosumer" high-temp dryers are often expensive or take up significant desk space. Since the Prusa heatbed is already capable of these temperatures and is highly accurate, it is an underutilized resource for material preparation. Proposed Workflow Menu Selection: A new "Filament Drying" entry under the Control or Settings menu. Material Presets: A list of filaments (e.g., PLA, PETG, Nylon, PC) with pre-set temperatures and recommended durations. Instructional UI: The bed lowers to the bottom (for CoreXY Printers). The screen displays: "Place filament spool on the steel sheet. Use a cardboard box or enclosure cover for optimal heat retention." A QR code links to a Prusa Help article detailing the "box method" and safety tips. Active State: * The UI displays a spool icon with a progress bar or "Time Remaining" countdown. Real-time temperature monitoring of the bed. Customization: A "Manual" mode to define a specific temperature and a timer (e.g., 4 to 12 hours). Safety & Optimization Auto-Shutoff: The heater turns off automatically when the timer expires. Fan Control: If applicable, the print fan could be pulsed to create slight air movement if an enclosure is used.
